Year 6 Maths More Able Workshop- Surrey University

Yesterday, on Wednesday afternoon, we had a visit from a member of staff at Surrey University. They came to teach us all about game theories where you can discover strategies to win games based upon probability. In this instance, the game we studied was ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’.

After working hard to find all the different possible combinations of wins, loses and draws, we discovered a pattern that helps you to win the game. Normally, when someone wins, they play the same move for the next round. However, when someone loses, they are more likely to change their choice. In order to try and win the game, here is a tip to help you: if you lost the previous round, change to the option that beats the option they just played.

Overall, we really enjoyed the event and really hope that Mr Tuckerman visits us again for more workshops.
