One to One Special Educational Needs Support Assistant – fixed term

Do you want to make a real difference?

We are looking for a Special Needs Assistant to work for 5 days a week, 8.45am-12.15pm. Your responsibilities will include 1:1 support of an individual child with SEN needs.  You may also be asked to assist other adults in the class with the preparation of resources and general classroom duties. 

We are looking for someone who:

·         has high expectations of all children

·         has experience of SEN children

·         understands the needs of an autistic child

·         is able to use their own initiative and be proactive

·         is able to communicate well with others

·         is a good team player

·         has an excellent subject knowledge in English and Maths with a minimum Grade C GCSE in both.

Talavera Junior School is a three/four-form school nestled in the heart of Aldershot. During our Ofsted, we were judged as an ‘Outstanding’ school all areas.

Here at Talavera Junior School, we offer a wraparound provision including breakfast and after school clubs, for our junior school children. This is a fun-based club that has been established for a number of years and currently is run with a team of 5.

We are looking to appoint an After-school care lead to supervise and coordinate the team providing high standards of care and play opportunities for children between the ages of 7-11 years old in a safe and secure environment. Writing newsletters will form part of the role and and liaising with the school office team will be a daily activity.

What you need to achieve:

·             High standards of care and play opportunities.

·             Compliance of all regulatory requirements stated in the Early Years Foundation Stage and by Ofsted.

·             Positive working relationships with staff members, outside professionals, parents and carers.

·             Happy, supported and engaged children.

Duties & Responsibilities:

·             To Lead the day-to-day organisation of the after-school club

·             Create a safe, welcoming and friendly environment delivering high quality creative play opportunities embracing each child's individual needs, unique qualities and personalities.

·             Liaise with the school with regard to the needs of the children who attend the after-school club including medical conditions.

·             Liaise with parents to encourage parental involvement and support through the development of effective working relationships, providing professional and relevant feedback to parents/carers about their child.

·             Provide care, play opportunities and activities in a homely and nurturing environment, with regard to the individual development needs of the children and age ranges of children.

·             Fully support inclusive practice and ensure that all children can be involved in the activities offered if they wish.

·             Consult and liaise with the children and involve them in the planning of activities.

·             Ensure appropriate planning is in place to maintain the required standards, ensuring that the relevant equipment and resources are available, consulting with the Management Team when necessary.

·             Monitor and evaluate the quality of the service.

·             Supervise the children throughout the session, ensuring that ratios are adhered to at all times.

·             Be an effective role model for children and practitioners at all times.

·             Ensure that children are kept safe and that staff members understand and follow safeguarding procedures.

·             Support all children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and implement Personal Education Plans.

·             Ensure the after-school club offers a high quality, inclusive environment which meets the needs of all children, regardless of social, culture, religion or beliefs.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Level 3 Qualification in Childcare or Playwork.

Experience of working with 4-11 year olds in a play environment.
